Building Better Cities and Launching a National Nonprofit with CitySHAPES
CitySHAPES is a new, national nonprofit created to help build better cities in Canada. Many of you will recognize the co-founder of CitySHAPES, former City Councillor Catherine McKenney.
Bringing CitySHAPES from an idea to a successful launch
When CitySHAPES launched publicly in January 2023, LeBlanc (& co.) Communications supported their team with planning and executing their launch.
CitySHAPES had a clear goal: to have a successful launch that would build their visibility as a new national nonprofit. To successfully launch a new organization takes clarity in messaging and brand.
While working together with CitySHAPES, we were able to plan a launch that harnessed the monument built by Catherine McKenney’s historic and progressive campaign for Mayor of Ottawa.
This led to the following outcomes:
• A successful media launch with 10 news stories and coverage on all major local media platforms.
• A social media launch that grew the organization’s social media followers from 0 to nearly 3,000 within a month.
• Creation of a comprehensive suite of materials, from the website, to press release, fundraising email, to launch speech that helped the CitySHAPES tell their story and secure their first-ever round of funding.
I’ve worked closely with Kathryn, including on the launch of CitySHAPES.
Catherine McKenney, Executive Director of CitySHAPES and former City Councillor.
Kathryn truly cares about social impact work and with her help, our launch was a big success.
Through engaging our audience with social media and earned media, Kathryn’s work with LeBlanc (& co.) Communications helped bring our nonprofit’s launch to life.
Services we delivered to CitySHAPES:
• Communications strategy for the launch
• Message development
• Website copywriting
• Support on media engagement (press release creation and press conference execution)
Outcome:
It was a pleasure to collaborate on the CitySHAPES communications with a great team. The CitySHAPES branding was designed by Shannon Hawn and the website design was created by Craig Pickthorne. In addition, the media work was supported by Heather Badenoch and the social media was supported by Ethan Sabourin.
